Valentine’s Day 2019
The children will be celebrating Valentine’s Day on Thursday, February 14th. There will be a classroom party including treats, games and, of course, the traditional exchange of valentines! Please use the most updated class list sent to you or the website list to help you prepare for the festivities. Currently we have 23 students. I encourage you to use this opportunity as a valuable learning activity. Please take the time to have your child sign and address each valentine (perhaps only a few each evening). This experience will not only provide reinforcement of letter identification, letter sounds, the capitalization of names, and fine motor skills but will help personalize the holiday. Completed valentines can be brought to school starting February 11th. The children will have their own valentine bags at school so that all our “love notes” can be delivered and received in style! Candy valentines and/or extra sweet treats are NOT allowed due to our allergy-restricted classrooms and school policy. Thanks for your understanding.
While preparing valentines children often ask me how to spell the names of our specials teachers. If your child is interested in making a valentine for any of them, I have provided their names below. Obviously, all of our students do not come in contact with ALL the people here, but you will know who you are looking for on the list. This is a great motivator for additional fine motor practice especially with the odd number of cards often left in the valentine box.
Please do NOT feel obligated.

As the winter doldrums set in and cabin fever abounds the children always have a bit more difficulty managing their behavior. In addition, we are getting excited about Valentine’s Day and all of that makes it hard for us to concentrate and focus on the academic tasks at hand. Obviously even the weather can influence our energy levels.
The panda class is experiencing a lot of behavior issues and we are working to model expected kindergarten behavior and strategies to make good choices. Children have been reminded about “The Wheel of Choice” which offers various ways to solve a problem. We have also been talking about ‘the size of the problem” and how one’s reaction should be comparative with the problem.
We all want each school day to be a positive experience and we are asking for your help and support at home. Please remind your child that you expect him to work hard and behave well at school. This is their job. Make sure children eat a good breakfast and have a good night’s sleep so that their body and mind are ready to work and play hard. We all may find we need to be a bit more patient and be more tolerant of the ups & downs. Remember, we may all also need some “down time” and an extra hug or two. As always, your support is much appreciated.
